5 Makeup Tips for Date Night or Appearances

Easy advice to take a novice makeup technique up a notch for those special occasions on your own!

By Marta Bota

Today, I wanted to bring in an expert. You’ll hear from heavily sought-after makeup artist, Marta Bota of MB FaceDesign, in today’s special guest blog, as she shares special tips to take your makeup application up a notch for your special date night with your partner – or for an appearance for those pageant ladies out there!

I spend a lot of my time helping women get ready for upcoming pageants whether I’m doing their makeup, spray tans or coaching them on how to do their makeup. In all my years as a makeup artist, I’ve learned a few tips and tools that are must haves when you’re ready to glam up your look for the night. Below you’ll find the top 5 you must have for you next pageant or TV appearance or date night with that special someone:

  1. Keep your foundation as natural looking as possible Its critical to use foundation that’s compatible with your skin type and matches your skin tone for the most natural effect. The best way to find the perfect color is to try it along your jawline and check it in natural lighting. It should disappear, as foundation should match your skin tone. If you’re looking to add color to the face, you’ll do so with cheek color and bronzers.

  1. Make sure your lashes are applied correctly: Lash strips are the rave, but so many women struggle with application. Try them on to check for size first, and then trim them down, if needed, with a cuticle scissor, for a more exact fit. You’ll then apply a thin strip of lash glue onto the lash strip and allow 20-30 seconds for the glue to dry into a tacky consistency. Press the lashes onto your own lash line and adjust the strip, while the glue is still slightly wet.

  2. Well-defined brows frame the eyes beautifully: Eyebrows can help give you a polished makeup look. Use pencils, gels, or powder that compliment your hair color.

  3. Play with your lip color: Enjoy playing with different textures and shades of lip color! Nudes, reds, and soft pink tones all have their place when pulling together your look. I love to create long-lasting lip stains by spritzing my favorite makeup setting spray onto a powder blush and applying it to my client’s lips with a lip brush. This can be used with a lip gloss on top or layered under your lipstick for long lasting power.

  4. Always use a setting spray: Choose a setting spray formula that works with your skin type. There are sprays that lock in your makeup all day long, those that can give dry skin a dewy sheen, and those that if you’ve got oily skin you can select for oil control formula. Setting sprays can keep your makeup looking fresh all day.

Recommendations Some of my favorite products that I can’t live without are:

  • LimeLife By Alcone Perfect Foundation: Its botanical high pigmented formulation gives the most natural finish and a little how a long way!

  • Duo Lash Glue: It’s been around for ages and always gets the job done. It has strong staying power and minimal mess. It comes both in clear and dark. I prefer the dark tone, as it blends into the lash line and your liner.
